Paxen provides today’s learners with the next generation of GED preparation tools

GEDXMELBOURNE, Florida—Paxen Learning, a premier provider of outcome-based educational and employability programs for at-risk learners, announces the release of the next generation of GED test-preparation materials, GED Prep Xcelerator. The 10-title series features consumable student books and workbooks across each of the five subject areas that comprise the GED Tests: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
Unlike other product lines, which can take several months to teach the GED Tests through a static, content-based approach, Xcelerator gets to the heart of the GED Tests—and quickly—by emphasizing concepts. Learners who study with Xcelerator are well-equipped for the GED Tests typically within three weeks or less and enjoy a more than 90 percent success rate—significantly above the national average.

We’re very excited about GED Prep Xcelerator and the positive impact it is having on so many lives,‖ said Herb Hilderley, Chief Executive Officer at Paxen. Improved career options, higher salary potential, and a heightened sense of achievement come with earning a GED certificate.

In its year-long development of Xcelerator, Paxen employed a contemporary approach that targeted the challenges faced by today’s at-risk learners. Unlike traditional materials, which were designed for the classroom, Xcelerator was designed from the classroom, using proven educational theory, cutting-edge education philosophy, and insight and feedback from students, teachers, education leaders and GED experts. This reverse-engineering of curriculum enabled Paxen to employ best practices from its well-established and highly successful accelerated GED preparation programs. Paxen also plans to release an electronic version of its GED preparation curriculum in October 2009.

We committed significant resources to develop and precisely tune our new GED preparation materials to meet the needs of today’s learners,‖ Hilderley said. ―And the results have been outstanding.

At their core, the majority of the GED Tests are reading-comprehensive exams. Learners must be able to read and interpret excerpts, passages and various visuals—such as tables, charts, graphs, timelines—and then answer questions based upon them. Xcelerator equips learners with the skills and strategies they need to correctly interpret and answer questions on the GED Tests.

The pedagogy upon which Xcelerator is based, Response to Intervention (RTI), emphasizes frequent assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of learners and their progress. True to that approach, Xcelerator provides students with a variety of features designed to maximize their performance, such as:

  • two-page micro-lessons that offer focused and efficient instruction through a standard learn-practice-apply methodology;
  • detailed excerpts and rich graphics, including maps, charts, timelines, and diagrams that directly map to the GED Tests;
  • callout boxes, sample exercises, and test-taking and other thinking strategies that aid in student understanding of complex concepts; and,
  • workbooks that offer twice the instruction and practice for students who need additional support.

GED Prep Xcelerator books are available for purchase by calling 1-800-247-2936, ext. 29, or online at http://www.paxen.com/bookstore/vmchk
