Paxen expands into fast-growing e-Learning market with Excelsior partnership
MELBOURNE, Florida—Paxen Learning has expanded its highly successful, nationally renowned GED® (General Educational Development) Tests preparation program into the rapidly growing e-learning market. The company announced that it has teamed with Excelsior College® to make its GED® Prep Xcelerator program available online through the College’s Center for Professional Development.
Entrance into the e-learning market aligns with Paxen’s overall corporate growth strategy. The company has dedicated significant resources to enhance its business development, infrastructure and operational systems in an effort to address the increasing demands in rapidly growing markets. Through such efforts, Paxen finds itself well-positioned to successfully develop new market and partnership opportunities for its life, academic and career skills programs, learning materials and services.
“As a company, we’ve been strategically focused on expanding our learning products and enhancing our instructional programs in an effort to broaden our market opportunities,” said Herb Hilderley, Chief Executive Officer, Paxen. “We are successfully building upon our long-term existing relationships and developing new partnerships that can lead to outstanding growth potential.”
According to the latest industry research, the e-learning market in the United States is growing approximately 30 percent a year and is expected to reach well beyond $20 billion within the next several years. Paxen’s expanded commitment to e-learning further dovetails with the needs of a target population increasingly re-evaluating career and life options—especially during challenging economic times.
Each year approximately 1.3 million people drop out of high school, according to industry statistics, and only about 684,000 people took the full battery of GED® Tests last year. These figures point to a large and growing segment of the population that could greatly benefit from e-learning offerings. In addition, the Obama administration has set as a goal an increase in college and high school completion rates, a strategy for which the GED®—and GED® Prep Xcelerator—can play a pivotal role.
Paxen has licensed GED® Prep Xcelerator, one of only three product lines certified for use by the American Council on Education®, for use by Excelsior College® and its Center for Professional Development. The Center for Professional Development offers a variety of non-credit bearing programs that are designed for individuals seeking continuing education, lifelong learning and professional development opportunities in job- or profession-specific areas.
GED® Prep Xcelerator provides preparation for all five subject areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Students who lack a high school diploma or GED® certificate typically are unable to enroll into an institution of higher learning. The online format of a GED® preparation program through a reputable provider, such as Excelsior’s Center for Professional Development, provides a new and convenient way for students to pursue their GED® at a pace they can choose. In addition, statistics routinely show that the average income for those who have earned their high school diploma or GED® can be as much as 50 percent higher than those who lack a diploma or equivalency degree.
