Florida National Guard’s Programs Begin 15th Year
MELBOURNE, Florida—Beginning this July, the Florida National Guard enters its 15th year of providing innovative community-outreach programs that positively impact at-risk youth and adults in numerous communities throughout the state. Since their inception in the mid-1990s, the About Face! and Forward March programs have provided crucial academic, life and work-readiness opportunities to more than 34,000 Floridians in more than 20 communities.
The programs feature such high success rates—such as increased academic performance and job placement—that the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C., looks to them as model programs to be delivered in other states.

Paxen names Semancik as Chief Operating Officer
MELBOURNE, Florida—Richard Semancik has been named Chief Operating Officer at Paxen Learning, the premier provider of outcome-based educational programs and materials that build academic and employability skills for at-risk learners. In this role, Mr. Semancik ensures the company’s overall operational excellence and provides stewardship and guidance for its growth and ongoing success. He previously served as Paxen’s executive vice president, customer solutions.

DoD Worldwide Education event highlights Paxen programs
ATLANTA—Programs conceived, developed, and implemented by Paxen Learning were cited as exemplars at the recent Department of Defense Worldwide Education Symposium in Atlanta. The triennial conference brings together military and civilian education leaders. Paxen’s programs, operated in conjunction with the Army National Guard, have helped bolster National Guard recruiting and retention efforts.

Paxen provides today’s learners with the next generation of GED preparation tools
MELBOURNE, Florida—Paxen Learning, a premier provider of outcome-based educational and employability programs for at-risk learners, announces the release of the next generation of GED test-preparation materials, GED Prep Xcelerator. The 10-title series features consumable student books and workbooks across each of the five subject areas that comprise the GED Tests: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Paxen’s GED Prep Xcelerator earns national honor from COABE
MELBOURNE, Florida—Paxen Learning, a premier provider of outcome-based educational and employability programs for at-risk learners, earned national recognition recently for its revolutionary GED Prep Xcelerator program.
The GED Prep Xcelerator program received honorable mention in the category of “Outstanding Workplace Literacy Program” from the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE). Presented annually, the award honors organizations that consistently develop outstanding workplace literacy programs at the community, state, or national level.
In recognizing GED Prep Xcelerator, COABE cited the program’s contributions to adult-basic education and literacy and its successes in improving the lives of thousands of military members and civilians who have participated in the program. Paxen partners with, and receives support from, a variety of government and community-based organizations to offer the program.

Trained & Ready program puts hundreds of Mississippians to work
GULFPORT, Mississippi—During the past 18 months, more than 850 Mississippi residents along the Gulf Coast have been building their job skills, earning GED credentials and creating new employment opportunities for themselves thanks to a unique work-readiness program known as Mississippi Trained & Ready. The program, which reached its completion date at the end of May, featured a 90 percent job placement success rate for participants who completed its on-site work experience/internship component.

Summer Youth Employment Program employs thousands of Hawaiian teens
KAHULUI—A federal stimulus program that will pay Hawaii students to work summer or part-time jobs
at local government and nonprofit agencies is staging its launch on Maui.
The Hawaii National Guard received $3 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds for
the summer jobs program, which is designed not only as a potential source of extra income for local
families but also to give local high school and college students an educational opportunity and a
chance to explore different careers.

Paxen expands into fast-growing e-Learning market with Excelsior partnership
MELBOURNE, Florida—Paxen Learning has expanded its highly successful, nationally renowned GED® (General Educational Development) Tests preparation program into the rapidly growing e-learning market. The company announced that it has teamed with Excelsior College® to make its GED® Prep Xcelerator program available online through the College’s Center for Professional Development.
