Building healthy lifestyles You Can Be Fit emphasizes how daily choices affect our health and how we feel. It trains youth to make decisions that will improve their diet and overall health. Topics include nutrition, components of a balanced exercise routine, barriers to exercise and how to overcome them. Youth learn about nutrition and exercise while working toward their own fitness goals. Instructors assess fitness levels at the start of the program, including heart rate and body mass index (BMI). Each student develops an individual program of exercises to practice in class and at home, and keeps a log of their fitness progress and food intake.
